Neil Boland = Gumbo Web Advice

Neil Boland, a Melbourne-based digital marketing and SEO specialist, runs Gumbo.

With a passion for providing digital marketing education and consultation to small to medium businesses, Neil has over 12 years experience on both the client and agency side of the industry—from being a marketing coordinator at Allans Billy Hyde, to an account manager at Sensis to SEO Lead at Officeworks—helping people make the right choice for services in websites, search engines, paid digital advertising, social media and many other aspects of online marketing.

He formed Gumbo based on witnessing the experiences that many Australian businesses often have with agencies: throwing money at a service provider and hoping for instant Google rankings and other returns.

A small investment in a digital consult and learning session with Neil can save you thousands down the track on agency-run digital marketing activities. Whether you are in trades, health, corporate, clerical, educational, or any other business that struggles with the world of digital marketing, start with Gumbo, and become a smart business online.

What’s With the Company Name?

As well as being a keen advocate for easy-to-obtain digital marketing education for businesses, Neil is also a musician in the after-hours. In addition to country and western, funk, jazz, and heavy metal (yes, the 80s kind), his biggest passion is the blues, as well as rhythm and blues from New Orleans, Chicago, Texas and more.

Gumbo is a Creole stew that is the official state cuisine of Louisiana. And in the funk and blues-rich city of New Orleans it is eaten daily by regular folks, musicians, artists and anyone who loves a hearty home-style feed. The "holy trinity of vegetables"—celery, onions and bell peppers—is always present in gumbo, but there are variations made to the recipe that make it just right for people with different tastes (Cajun gumbo, for example, may contain fowl instead of seafood).

Neil sees this mix of essential fundamentals and variables to be the perfect metaphor for knowing what types of digital marketing activities combine to create be best strategy for each client. So, there you go!
